MHSSEND
Documentation
Version 1.2
INTRODUCTION
MHSSEND is an enhancement for MHS and your current mail
program. It simply acts as a notifier for any incomming MHS
mail. MHSSEND uses NOVELL's internal broadcast system to
"SEND" new mail notification to users of MHS. In this way,
MHSSEND takes 0K at the user's workstation.
MHSSEND can also be run locally from within the system login
script or a separate batch file to interactively (and
immediately) check for mail upon login.
INSTALLATION
[Any occurrence of "[d:]" indicates the drive on which MHS
is located]
To install MHSSEND as a MHS gateway do the following:
1) Run MHS and load the Directory Manager
2) Define a new gateway called MHSSEND (leave all other
defaults -- SEE NOTE)
3) Quit MHS
4) Copy MHSSEND.EXE to
[d:]\MHS\GATES\MHSSEND\PUBLIC\INPOST.EXE
5) Copy MHSSEND.EXE to [d:]\MHS\EXE\MHSSEND.EXE
6) Run MHS
NOTE: In item 2 you should not specify any parameters
unless the user who runs MHS on a regular basis is not
called MHS. That is, if you do not have a defined MHS user
for the application (user MHS logs in and runs MHS). If you
have another username other than MHS, place that name in the
parameter list.
MHSSEND looks for the environment variable MV and tests to
find MHS by checking the existence of
[d:]\mhs\exe\mhsver.com. If it cannot find this file it
will respond saying that MV is set incorrectly. This may
result if MV truly is not set or if the user running MHSSEND
does not have enough security to read the files in
[d:]\mhs\exe or if mhsver.com is missing.
MHSSEND has been tested under MHS 1.5 and should work for
1.21.
RUNNING MHSSEND (GATEWAY)
MHSSEND will run automatically each time MHS cycles. Each
defined MHS user will be checked for mail by polling
[d:]\MHS\MAIL\USERS\[username]\[appname] for any files
beginning with $T. The directory ..\IPARCEL\.. is
automatically excluded from this check. If mail is found
then a message is sent specifying the number of messages and
the application they were found in. All application
directories will automatically be searched.
EXCLUDING NOTIFICATION
You may exclude users from notification by creating a NOVELL
group call MHSEXCLUDE and adding to the member list, all
usernames you do not wish to have notified.
RUNNING MHSSEND (LOCAL)
MHSSEND can be run locally, outside of MHS, to check for
mail. To do this, simply enter MHSSEND. Your username will
be scanned from your current connection and your mail
directories will be checked for mail. If mail is found then
you will be notified and errorlevel 1 will be set (for
further processing on your part). I recommend you place
#MHSSEND in your system login script to check for mail each
time your users log into the network. Be sure this is AFTER
MV is set.
HISTORY

you must first have the MHSSEND passcode.
1) Type COPY CON [d:]\MHS\EXE\MHSSEND.REG
